Letter
from the Editor
Welcome
to the Summer 2005 Edition of Ei Update. My name is Susan
Lo, and I am the new Editor of the Ei Update and have
recently joined the Ei team in the role of Marketing Manager.
I am pleased to have met some of Ei Update’s readers
at the ASEE conference this past June in Portland, Oregon and
I hope to get to know many more of you going forward. I am truly
excited to be on the Ei team.
This edition of Ei Update highlights the enhancements made
to Engineering Village 2 in our July 18th product release. We
are proud that our new features will provide more powerful searching,
enhance results and make Engineering Village 2 even more intuitive
and user friendly.
In What's New, we discuss the expansion of Faceted Searching,
the introduction of RSS Alerts, Blog This, and the latest updates
and news about Referex Engineering.
The News & Events area highlights the accomplishments
of Ms. Joan Dubis, the SLA Librarian of the Year and recaps Ei’s
participation in the ASEE conference. Of special interest in this
section is an update on the research study, "The Role of
Information in Innovation". We have been busy sharing the
results of the study and the response has been overwhelmingly
positive. To round out this section, find out how to enroll in
on-line training sessions featuring our latest updates.
In Librarian’s Corner we have an eclectic selection
of short articles. Ei’s Training Manager, Gali Halevi, discusses
the development of faceted searching and how this functionality
enhances information retrieval system design vs. the users’
ability to conduct effective searches. We provide tips on using
the Autostem feature on Engineering Village 2 Expert search fields
and finally, Ei takes a look at how century old research is influencing
wireless communications and home networking.
Ei is excited to offer RSS feeds for Ei Update!
Just click on the orange RSS button and copy the URL into your

We would like to hear from you!
Ei Update would like to feature our librarians and provide a forum
for sharing ideas about using Engineering Village 2. We are looking
for ideas on searching techniques, success stories using EV2 tools,
or perhaps you would like to write about an area of your own expertise.
Please send your comments or story ideas to me at s.lo@elsevier.com.
I hope you enjoy this edition of Ei Updates and I look forward
to hearing from you!
Sincere regards,
Susan Lo
