FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New Product Release for Engineering Village 2™
Major enhancements include faceted searching and library customization
HOBOKEN, N.J. 14 January 2005 - Elsevier Engineering Information (www.ei.org ) announces the latest product release of the Engineering Village 2™ discovery platform. This new release features the introduction of faceted searching plus significant increases in the level of customization available to library customers. Engineering Village 2 is the premiere web-based discovery platform for the engineering community featuring leading bibliographic engineering databases including Compendex®, Inspec® and NTIS.
Faceted searching on Engineering Village 2 provides another powerful tool that supports engineering researchers in locating published literature critical to their work. Faceted searches group and count results according to the value of key data elements or "facets." This method supplements the traditional, long list displays of search results, and can replace the need to filter through large quantities of individual records. By grouping results according to data facets, common threads between search results are revealed, enabling searchers to quickly refine their results to an increasingly relevant set. Refinements can be made dynamically with a single mouse click, allowing researchers of all levels a fast and intuitive method for finding the content most relevant to their work.
The January 14th release focuses upon enhancing discovery while providing libraries with the flexibility to customize their subscriptions to institutional needs. Libraries, for example, may chose how searches on Engineering Village 2 are integrated within their local link resolvers, to locate entitled versions of referenced documents, library OPACs and other library services. These customizations will result in faster and more reliable deliveries of full-text content. Customers may also choose to set institution-wide preferences, including directing user questions to a local library reference desk, or having a network of experts available through Engineering Information.
"This product release further demonstrates Engineering Village 2's commitment to providing engineering researchers with the most effective research tools possible," said Rafael Sidi, Vice President of Publishing, Elsevier Engineering Information. "Our new faceted search offers a powerful method for users to dynamically navigate content and locate literature which might otherwise be missed."
