Engineering Information - Step Ahead

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

5th Edition of the Ei Thesaurus® Now Available

New Edition Reflects Continued Subject Growth in Engineering Disciplines

New York, N.Y., 12 February 2007 - Engineering Information (www.ei.org) has announced the release of the new, fifth edition of the Ei Thesaurus, which forms the basis of the indexing system used within the Compendex® database. The Ei Thesaurus provides the taxonomy and subject classifications used to categorize over 600,000 engineering documents each year. Compendex is the definitive bibliographic database of engineering literature.

Searchers use terms from the Ei Thesaurus to identify documents based on the subject matter each document addresses. Controlled terms are assigned by professional indexers to capture the concepts a document deals with in a standard manner. Standardized term assignments aid precise document retrieval when searching.

The 5th edition features 1,075 new engineering terms reflecting advancement in engineering and technology. New terms appear in areas such as bioceramics, fuzzy logic, nanosensors, polyblends and tissue engineering, and were identified by subject specialists through an extensive evaluation of the literature covered in Compendex in recent years.

"As the body of published literature relevant to engineering disciplines continues to expand, the need for current and relevant controlled search vocabulary has never been more crucial." said Judy Salk, Ei's Director of Editorial Operations. "Focus on a proven set of categories reduces irrelevant results and duplications. Spanning concepts, processes, and concrete entities, Ei's specialized vocabulary clarifies the search process without sacrificing complexity."

The 5th Edition of the Ei Thesaurus is currently available in print and can be purchased via order form.
