from the Editor
Dear
Readers,
Ei has been busy since last autumn and through the end of 2005
developing and launching a new product, Ei Patents on
Engineering Village 2. This new subscription based product
greatly enhances the engineering and technical information available
through the Engineering Village 2 interface. Ei Patents
provides a cost effective way for institutions that are serious
about patenting and research to stay competitive in R&D fields.
By searching patent information, researchers have access
to 80% more technical information that is not available in traditional
bibliographic databases.
For more information about Ei
Patents, please be sure to read our article in the What’s
New section of the newsletter where we outline the key features
of the product and take a more in-depth look at the functionality.
Also in What’s New, we discuss the new facet categories
that have been added to Engineering Village 2’s
result pages, we cover the new indexing of the Inspec database,
and the improvement of the De-duplication functionality. Finally in this section, we highlight the new Training Center that has recently been added to the www.ei.org website.
Next, in Librarian’s Corner, Gali Halevi looks back on her
time in an R&D company and discusses her complex work process
involving patents research. Gali contemplates how conducting comprehensive
technology and patent searches for the staff engineers would have
been simplified if her company subscribed to a search tool like
Ei Patents.
In News & Events, we highlight the work of our customer-led
Compendex Scope & Coverage Committee. This group
of 17 subject librarians and industry experts help Ei shape the
content of the Compendex database and work throughout the year
to make recommendations to our editors on the most relevant serial
titles they believe should be included in Compendex. We also look
at how their work process has been enhanced by blogging and we
share a list of the recommended titles for inclusion in 2006.
Also in News & Events, check out the training sessions and register online to get an in depth look at the new Ei Patents product. Finally, read about Engineering Village 2 being chosen as a CODiE Award finalist for 2006 and link to our press release.
As always, I welcome any feedback about the content of the newsletter.
If there is a particular issue or topic you wish to see covered,
please feel free to send me an email!
Warm regards,
